Seeking Advice on Managing Duplicate Data in CMDB

Hi,

I'm encountering an issue with duplicate data in our CMDB (Configuration Management Database), and I'm seeking your insights on how to address it effectively.

Our instance is tightly integrated with various tools like SCCM, SNOW, etc., receiving incoming connections regularly. While loading data from SCCM, we've noticed that local admin personnel updating records are causing the CMDB table to collect redundant data from tools like SNOW and SCCM. As a result, we're inundated with duplicates, compounded by those generated by the mid-server.

Despite our efforts, pinpointing the exact cause of these duplications has proven challenging. I'm reaching out to the community with the following questions:

  1. How can we prevent the influx of duplicate data? Are there strategies or best practices you've found effective in similar situations?

  2. What methods can we employ to efficiently delete existing duplicate records? While scripting and remediation of the CMDB are options, are there alternative solutions that have yielded better results?

  3. How do you recommend maintaining the overall health of the CMDB table? Any insights into ensuring data accuracy and preventing future duplications would be invaluable.

I appreciate any advice or experiences you can share on this matter. Thank you for your assistance!

Thanks.
