Serial number mandatory oob on cmdb_ci? Does anyone actually leave this like this?

If you do leave it mandatory, what does your health dashboard look like? (Mine's a mess because of it)

If you disable this, what did you do to make it required on child classes? Dictionary overrides?

I don't need to, mine seems to prove otherwise, right?

To be clear on the overrides, I do them inside the base ci and reference each table? I don't go to the class and add an override there.

hi @bleedy

out of the box, serial number actually shouldn't be mandatory at the dictionary level on the base table. If it is in your instance, someone probably customized it in the past, or you might just be dealing with the CMDB Health rules rather than a hard database requirement.

If you need to enforce it on the form or database level, disabling it on the base table and using Dictionary Overrides on the specific hardware child classes (like Computer, Server, or Network Gear) is exactly the right approach. That is standard best practice.
