Service Mapping without Discovery License

DO you really need to get Discovery license in order for Service Mapping to work? What if I ingest all the environments through Rest API from an external tool and run Service Mapping on top of it.

You need the Discovery components activated if you want to do Service Mapping.  Service Mapping depends on the objects that horizontal discovery does.  So, when the Service Mapping plug-in is enabled, it enables those same objects from the Discovery plug-in.

You will only need to be licensed for Service Mapping for the number of nodes for which you are mapping to business services.  But you will be doing a full horizontal discovery on those nodes.  There is no way around it.  Service Mapping is a super set of Discovery.

What if I get all the CMDB data through Rest API in ServiceNow such that we have all the infrastructure details and then try creating the Service Maps using that data.

No.  Simply. Will. Not. Work.

Service Mapping is going to Expect, Rely-upon and USE Discovery infrastructure to do its job.  There is no real way around this.

Well I mean you could do a manual service map but I wouldn't recommend it. It sounds like the original question was around licensing and Richard basically said that you only need the SM licensing even if it does reference some horizontal mapping components. What I will say though is that at some point you will probably get nabbed by ServiceNow if you try to go around the licensing modelling in the way that you said dkhanna01.
