ServiceNow Discovery Vs Snow Discovery

Hi,

One of our customers already has ServiceNOW with fully fledged ITOM operator licenses used for Discovery, Event Management etc. They also have the ITSM suite, Asset and CSM. A fairly robust CMDB is also in the equation.

However, we have caught wind they have procured the SNOW software and managed service to do 'HAM/SAM' but it seems to be they have expensively over looked the capability of ServiceNow and what they have already to achieve the end goal.

I'm concerned Discovery will have to stop and SM will be a nono in ServiceNOW because they will have to downgrade the ITOM PRO operator roles at the end of their renewal period for just standard as (on face value) SNOW with the ITSM Enhancer plug in will do virtually everything discovery did/was used for today, regardless of the roadmap with SM/Orchestration  and pump the CMDB with all data with the discovery source SNOW Software.

I feel as though i should warn them that if SM/Orch/AIOps is still on the roadmap, they will still need the pro operator licenses which do come at a huge cost and if they end goal is now 'just' to have a CMDB & Event Management with basic HW/SW CIs then there is no point discovering the same things in both tools with different sources or CI lookup tables in the incident/change form.... configuring/upkeeping MID servers and the work needed to implement agent based SNOW software with supporting infra teams. (installation, opening firewalls etc.)

Theyve also been sold the dream i guess is that SNOW will do relationships also to a point between CIs but i dont know if that part of a app in ServiceNOW (similar to the relationships in the AppDynamics app)or whether thats managed outside servicenow and within snow.

I imagine if they go the SNOW route - It will populate the CMDB /Asset module with details that ServiceNow will be expected to bind to a sold product and client and that will satisfy them.

Has anyone experienced the same/similar and is it 'worth' having both tools doing basically the same thing from a discovery perspective or am i way off the mark with my thoughts.

Your concerns about the redundancy and cost implications of using ServiceNow and Snow Software for ITAM and SAM purposes are valid. Using both tools for similar functions can result in duplication of effort, increased costs, and potential data conflicts.
