Tagging On-Prem Infrastructure

Hey Community,

Hoping this is the right forum to post the question. I am looking for some thoughts on potential opportunities to tag on-prem infrastructure and then leverage the Tag-Based Service Mapping method to begin our overall Service Mapping journey.

I am familiar with the Tag-Based approach and we have been successful with our cloud-hosted applications, however, Top Down has become a much more strenuous and involved solution which prompts the question.

1. Is it possible to tag on-prem infra in ServiceNow and use the Tag-Based method for Service Mapping?

2. Any success stories in the Community?

I appreciate any thoughts on this topic.

Servicenow does a good job at bringing in keys/tags from VMWare vCenter. If your infrastructure teams are tagging those resources (virtual machine records), they can most certainly be leveraged.  What tag-based won't do is populate the server records onto the maps. So basically, you gain ease with tag-based but lose detail of doing pattern-based.
