Template on Service Catalog item

Hi everyone,

From trial and error it seems that if you link a template to a service catalog item it only uses it if the item type is record producer.

We would really like to preset some values using a template but do not want to use a record producer.

So my question is:
1. Is that correct (that template only used on a record producer)?
2. If so, does anyone have any tips on preseting values?

Thanks John - but the difficulty is the condition: I wanted to use the template to set something which I could test in a Process Guide so that I could bring in the approvals relevant to this catalog item. So I wanted to set this using the template - so if I could find a condition to apply the template I could find a condition to test in the process guide.

Sounds like you are binding process guides to the request based on the item(s) within the request. You might be better off binding the guide to the items using inline execution plan approvals.
Other than that, I'm out of suggestions on this one.
Anyone else? :confused:

Hi John,

You are correct - we do if possible want to do the approvals on the request. I can script round this but wondered why you could not have a template on an item when you can when it is a record producer.

Using a template would just make life simpler - no script.
