Updating the CI of VMware Virtual Machine automated

Hello Friends,

As part of the infrastructure team, we create\update VMs specifications like instance name, CPU, Memory, IP, ownership etc. For each respective change we create & update the VMware Virtual Machine CI manually. This incurs a lot of manual effort in keeping the CI's updated.

As a part of automation innovation, we would like to get the addition\updating the CI of VMware Virtual Machine automated.

What will be the best practice and steps/solution?

Thank you!

Hi

I'm not sure if I've understood your situation correctly, because if you have vCenter Discovery running, then these CIs should update whenever the schedule runs. So, my first suggestion is, if you haven't already, implement Discovery for VMware vCenter.

The alternative meaning I'm inferring from your post is that you have vCenter Discovery, but perhaps the schedule runs on a low frequency, and you need to update the CIs more promptly. In that case, you could also implement vCenter event collectors so that changes in vCenter are reflected in their CIs very quickly and without requiring a full vCenter Discovery.

I hope this helps.
