I would like to start populating our CMDB with our Internet Service Providers with the various metadata like speed circuit ID, contract terms, support contact etc. and map it to location. Should I create a new CI and map it to location or is there a better way?

I've never seen ISP's as an OOB Class in CMDB.
I'd say you will need to create a new CI Class for ISP and then add the ISPs into it. You'll be effectively setting up a new form layout, so you would be able to set the layout to what you want to capture. If you use the Contracts module, you could set up a relation between the two.
If you don't use the Contract module, you could just attach a contract and setup in your form contract dates, that you can even make trigger notifications when due to expire.
Here is a link to How to Create a CI Class and there is additional docs in that set that can guide you through how to set it up.
By having these in CI's you'll have the benefits then of using them as definitions in Change, Incident, Problem management etc.

Hello, I wondered if in 2025 this answer was still valid please?
Or is there now a standard CI Class for Internet Connections? We have around 30 into a building and I would like to have the information listed by the original poster in the CMDB, and then build a relationship to the relevant Firewalls.
Thank you
