Do you struggle with the difference between Assets and Configuration Items? And why do we need Model records? Isn't that just another thing to maintain? Get a better understanding of these items, how they are different, and how they work together in this session with Ben Sweetser.

Thank you very much Ben for these links.
I have seen you ATE session and it was really helpful. It cleared lots of doubts which I personally had related to CIs, Assets, Models and Model Categories.
Also the ways to create CI without creating asset record was wonderful.

Hi Ben,
Thank you for the session. You have indicated that CIs are created first and then create an associated Asset. What about the other way around? We get our procured asset information from SAP. We would load it in the Asset table first and then determine if they should also be a CI. Is that possible?
Best regards,
Mun

Hi Mun,
The creation of associated records is bi-directional. If you create the Asset first, based on the Model Category identified, it will create a corresponding CI. Then your discovery source should update that CI record.

Hi Ben,
Assets have both Model Category and Model while CI has only Model and Models have Model Categories so does it means that Model category is selected based on the Model even in the Asset case which have both?
