Asset Install Date and Assigned date on hardware

I have a question on HAM and asset install dates.  What is the guidance or best practice on using install dates.  From my understanding, the install date is the initial installation date when a device is issued.  When a device is returned and redeploy, does that date change?

The asset is only installed once and therefore the date should not change. What should change is the Assigned date field whenever the asset is 'assigned to' someone.
