Auto Populate Task Board

Any way to automatically populate Visual Task Boards? I'd like to take any incident, task, problem, demand, etc. assigned to a certain Group or Individual and have it automatically get added to a VTB. Thanks.

Ok... so you go to that search bar and you type in "Task.list" (I'm assuming that Task is a new concept for you, so you might not have any pre-filtered modules aiming at Task). Once you've got that list with the query that you actually want (in your case "assigned to = me", that's when you Create the VTB. In the screen above I grouped by Task Type so you can see I've got all kinds of tasks in there.

Now, this is super important. The header you right-click determines the type of VTB you'll create.

I right-clicked from Short Description, so I'm going to get a "Flexible" VTB. This means I get to define the Lanes myself. Flexible VTBs are created whenever you build from a non-validated field.
If you right click on something like State or Category or any other validated data, you're going to get a Guided VTB, in which the Lanes are rigid.

Guided and Flexible VTBs populate their data automatically based on a query. Freeform boards have to have manually added tasks.

The tricky bit is figuring out exactly how to build a Guided Board or Flexible Board. For that you have to decide 1 important thing. "Do I want the lanes to be rigidly defined by a field (such as state)".

If you want query based population, but freeform lane definition, build a list query exactly the way you want, then right click on a non-validated field (like short description). You should then have the option of Creating a Flexible VTB.
If you want rigid lane definition, do the same thing but right click on a validated field column (the one you want to form the lanes) and you should have hte option of Creating a Guided VTB.

Been a few weeks since I did this, so it might not actually tell you which type of VTB you're building... it will just do it.

Thanks, this got me closer. I think I'm trying to do something that can't be done. I want ONE VTB with all my incidents, project tasks, demands, etc. Anything and everything assigned to me on ONE board.

I do that right now. The confusing part of VTB is you don't start at the VTB to create it. You have to start with a LIST.

So if I were you, I'd go to the raw task list, query only those tasks assigned to you, then create the VTB per the instructions/preferences above.

Deciding the table content isn't what you need right now. You're already done (you want Tasks). What you need to decide now is how you want your lanes to work. Do you want lanes to be abstractions that you make up however you like? Or do you want lanes linked to something concrete, like the state.

I must be missing some last step. I can create a VTB from my Incident LIST or my Project LIST or my Demands but each one creates a different VTB. They don't let me assign these to the one VTB I've got. I guess the question is how do I create one LIST of everything assigned to me in SNOW? All my tasks, problems, incidents, projects, demands, etc.... Probably a way... I'll poke at it. Thanks.
