Blackout Schedule in Change

Hi Team,

I was working on blackout schedules and was wondering if any one knows what the source "Change request" means in the below window. I assume we need CI for using black out schedules (correct me if wrong).

We don't use CIs in our environment, so is there a point of having blackout schedules?

hi @JohnnySnow ,

Please refer this article

The maintenance schedule can apply at different levels, i.e "sources":

  • Change Request - Define a period where all changes can't be performed. Sort of the opposite of a blackout schedule where you can instead define a time range where changes are allowed.
  • Service - the chosen CI will have an upstream dependency to a business or application service (if you have a decent CMDB setup) and you can define maintenance schedules at service level rather than class level. For example, you might only want downtime for your website (aka the service) between midnight and 2am however general server maintenance (CI Class) can occur midnight to 6am
  • CI Class - define a maintenance window for a range of CIs. As suggested above, define a time window where any windows server can be modified.

Thanks,

BK

That sounds wrong, I was asking about black out schedule's  'source' field.

Maintenance schedule is where you can do the changes during the specified window. I was trying to understand what is the purpose of 'Change request' in the source.

Thanks
Johnny

HI @JohnnySnow

As per my understanding if you put source as Change Request , it applicable on all type of changes irrespective of CI / Services.

Source of the blackout or maintenance schedule. The available options are ServiceChange Request, and CI Class.

Note: When you select Service or Change Request from the Source list, the Applies to field does not appear. The Applies to field appears if you select CI Class as the Source, which in turn enables the selection of a CI Class.

Hello @Dr Atul G- LNG
It is possible to set up a Blackout period using the source "CI Class", however, I am interested to create a Blackout period using "Change Request". I am not sure why if I select "Change Request", SN does not detect the conflict whitin the dates and time I set up.

I have also noticed that the "CI Class" has the option to set up the "Change Request [change_request] table in the Applies to filed, but again, the conflict detection script is not detecting my blackout depending on my conditions.

Again, I assume that the conflict detection script should be modify.
