Maintenance Schedule Source

I was having issues showing Maintenance Windows in my Change Schedules until I changed the Source property to Change Request. I don’t understand what this property really means and why it would ever be set to anything different. Asking for a customer. thanks!

Hi Mitch,

The maintenance schedule can apply at different levels, i.e "sources":

  • Change Request - Define a period where all changes can't be performed. Sort of the opposite of a blackout schedule where you can instead define a time range where changes are allowed.
  • Service - the chosen CI will have an upstream dependency to a business or application service (if you have a decent CMDB setup) and you can define maintenance schedules at service level rather than class level. For example, you might only want downtime for your website (aka the service) between midnight and 2am however general server maintenance (CI Class) can occur midnight to 6am
  • CI Class - define a maintenance window for a range of CIs. As suggested above, define a time window where any windows server can be modified.
