CAB Workbench Integration with Service Operations Workspace (SOW) – Zurich Release

Overview

With the Zurich release, ServiceNow enhanced the integration between Change Management and Service Operations Workspace (SOW). After the upgrade, users may notice that CAB Workbench now opens and operates within SOW.

This behavior is out of the box and by design, aligned with ServiceNow’s workspace-first approach.

This article explains:

  • What changed in the Zurich release

  • Why CAB opens in Service Operations Workspace

  • Which CAB-related lists are now available in SOW

  • How to control the redirection behavior (optional)

🔄 What Changed in Zurich?

Before Zurich

  • CAB Workbench primarily used legacy UI / Service Portal pages

  • Navigation was not fully workspace-based

From Zurich Onwards

  • CAB Workbench is integrated with Service Operations Workspace

  • CAB activities such as:

    • CAB Calendar

    • CAB Meetings

    • CAB Definitions

    • Change approvals and reviews are now launched and managed from SOW

This ensures a more consistent and modern user experience.

🧭 CAB Navigation Flow (Post-Zurich)

After upgrading to Zurich, the typical flow is:

  1. User navigates to CAB Workbench from the Application Navigator

  2. The CAB Calendar is displayed

  3. User opens a CAB Definition.

  4. Clicking Open redirects the user to:

📋 CAB Lists Now Available in Service Operations Workspace

As part of this integration, several CAB-related lists and views are now available directly in Service Operations Workspace, including:

  • CAB Meetings

  • CAB Definitions

  • Upcoming CAB meetings

This provides:

  • Better visibility for change managers

  • End-to-end change lifecycle tracking

  • Improved efficiency within a single workspace

⚙️ Controlling the Redirection Behavior

If you do not want CAB to redirect to Service Operations Workspace and instead want to remain on the previous (legacy) CAB page, this behavior can be controlled using a system property.

  • By default, the property is set to true, which enables redirection to Service Operations Workspace (SOW)

  • Setting the property to false disables the redirection and keeps the user on the legacy CAB page

System Property:

sn_change_cab.com.snc.change_management.cab.use_sow_meeting = false

📌 Note: Changing this property is optional and should be done based on your organization’s upgrade strategy and requirements.
