How Does 'Meta' Work on Catalog Items?

Pak

Each of our catalog item that's been built has keywords populated in the 'Meta' field. I tried testing one of them and it doesn't seem to be working on the Self Service Portal. It always return 'Your search - keyword - did not match any documents' message. Am I using it wrong? Am I missing something to get this to work as expected?

Hi,

Once the meta has been added you'd want to regenerate your text indexes by following the instructions at the bottom of this post: https://docs.servicenow.com/bundle/orlando-it-service-management/page/product/service-catalog-manage... the first step about text indexes and regenerating, takes a little bit to finish. You can track if it's done or not in that same area, just by looking at the state of the record they mention you regenerate the text index on.

Hi Allen, I followed the instructions per the servicenow doc. It doesn't seem to be working still. One of my catalog item's keyword was '9'. I tried searching it on the Service Portal and nothing pulled up.

I did noticed the auto threshold is 250,000 and the unique terms are 956,340. Does that matter?

Hi,

You may need to include a keyword that is 3 or more characters. I haven't tried with just 1 character and know that sometimes less than 3 causes different results.

Here's an example of a record producer I have with it's meta defined:

So, as we can see, it's a record producer named: Test Producer. We can also see that it has a valid catalog...and category defined. The meta I added to this item are the words: biscuits and pancakes, which are comma separated as such.

After regenerating the text index (remember it can take awhile to process and I've mentioned above how to go and find the status to see that it's done aka "Ready").

Now, when I go to self-service and search for biscuits or pancakes, this producer shows up as a selection:

and an unrelated search, just to show what it does for other searches:

So it should be working for you?

Mines a little different because it's a catalog item made from the software model. I don't think it should matter though?
