My understanding is that if let say the value of Configuration item is SERVICENOW , you want to show its backend value on the form , that is the sys id of this CI.
You can use an Onload client script to add a info message below the field with its backend value.

can you elaborate the requirement ?
which type of field it is ?
where you want to display and when to display ?
What i can think of is give the front end name as same as back end name so that both are same .

Hi,
there is a utility which you can use and it works as browser extension.
This is not ServiceNow feature but somebody has created an extension.
I have seen people using it in Chrome, not sure in firefox
