Our company has implemented the asset module of SNOW, and my group now has about 26k items in it.
I am running into a problem where the model category field is inconsistent. For example, thousands of Dell Optiplex PCs are called "Desktops", but about 50 are called "Workstations".
The inconsistency exists with several device types.
We have gotten better at being consistent when inputting NEW devices, but I still have a few hundred devices that have the incorrect model category.
I cannot edit the field, and I am told that no one can edit it and this is just how SNOW works. We would have to delete all 300 assets and recreate them, but then we lose work notes.
We can edit the Hardware Models table and make sure it is correct for any NEW devices, but is there ANY way that the model category of an existing asset can be changed?
Thank you.

The reason it is locked down is because the model category drives the class of asset and CI - the type of record to create. Changing it may cause issue where you have some assets that have different CI classes linked to them.
I would suggest creating a list and add the class field for both the asset and ci to see if there are differences. If not, you could run a script for force an update.
