For Core UI, update System Properties → Basic Configuration UI16 and set the Page header caption to DEV, the browser-tab title to Company – DEV, and optionally assign a distinctive header colour.
For Next Experience Unified Navigation, the UI16 Page header caption does not provide the same persistent header label. Use a non-dismissible UX Banner Announcement associated with Unified Navigation, and optionally create a DEV-specific theme or logo through Theme Builder. This is preferable to modifying the OOTB navigation component and provides a clear, upgrade-safe distinction between DEV, TEST, UAT and PROD.
