knowledge_contributor role user to create knowledge base

Hi, 

As per OOB users with role knowledge_admin or admin can create new Knowledge bases. we would like to extend this capability to  knowledge_contributor role users to create the new knowledge bases as well. Please advise best approach to do this

Hello @mounika7675 ,

You can create a new ACL on the kb_knowledge_base table with Read and Create operations and assign the required role to it. I have tested this approach in a demo instance, and it is working as expected.

As per the process, I’m not comfortable with this approach. Providing Knowledge Base roles directly to contributors gives them excessive access, which is not a good practice. A contributor’s role should be limited to creating articles, not managing or owning Knowledge Bases.

If every contributor starts creating their own Knowledge Base, it will become extremely difficult for Knowledge Managers to maintain structure, governance, and consistency across the platform.

Therefore, I strongly recommend not proceeding this way. Instead, please follow the standard process:

• Contributors should raise a request via a Catalog Item for Knowledge Base creation.

• The request should go through the designated approver (right person / Knowledge Manager).

• Once approved, the Knowledge Base should be created and governed centrally.

This approach ensures proper control, quality, and long-term maintainability of the Knowledge ecosystem.
