Making a New Dependent Column

Hello All,

I hope everyone is doing so well! 😊 I am working on some restructuring of the incident table in my instance, and am having some trouble in creating a new column. See this new column needs to be dependent on another, but I no longer am seeing an option/tab for 'dependent field' when making&saving that new column.
Here is a picture example of a column that is currently active in the table and is dependent:

But when I attempt to create a new column (through the dictionary or the table record) I am never given the option to choose a dependent field. Here is an image reflecting that:

Any insight to this would be so valuable to me, I'm so grateful to be apart of this community!

Hi Megan

The UI policy that makes the tab accessible is only available after the column is created. In your second screenshot, is that after you have submitted the record, or during the creation and it's still a new record?

1. Create the dictionary entry

2. Submit the record

3. Once created, use the related list action 'Advanced View'

4. The tab will be accessible - not dependent field for a string field is only available if the choice field is not set to -- None --

Hello @meganmwright18

  • This issue occurs because the 'Choice List Specification' section has 'Choice' set to 'None'.

  • To resolve this, update the 'Choice' field to a value other than 'None'.

Once this is updated, the 'Dependent Field' section will become visible.

Hope this helps!

@Kieran Anson and @Juhi Poddar Thank you so much for responding to my post! Actually both of your responses led me to the solution! I had already saved the column, but I was viewing it in the normal view. I needed to click into the 'Advanced View' from the related links section. Then, in order for this advanced view to have the specific 'dependent field' tab, I did need to have something other than '--None--' selected for Choice. Happy to have learned!

Hello @meganmwright18

Glad that the issue is now resolved.
