What we are trying to do is have an approval from one user with the approval role be able to approve. The challenge is that we have a group of say 25 people, but only 1(or certain ones) of them has the approver role in that group. This person could also be in multiple groups in which he should not be able to approve a change for. For example: Jim might be the Service Desk manager, and needs to approve changes for the Service Desk, however he is also in the Management team group and is not authorized to approve major changes for other groups. He needs to be an approver for ServiceDesk so he will have the approval role in that group, but in the management team group is is not an approver. Is there a simple script that we can put in that will only ask for the approval of the person with that approval role in each group?
My fear is that, once you have the approval role on your user record, it's there and any group you are in, you'll be able to approve. Which I'm pretty sure is how it works. We are trying to avoid having to create an approval group for each group we have already in place, which is the only way I can think of to do this. Any ideas would be great.

I ran into a similar problem. I have the approvals set up via a workflow. I also have approvers segregated into their own groups. I have the workflow do a simple table lookup based on the group requesting approval to determine who needs to be an approver. There are many variations that can be employed in terms of what you get from a simple table lookup or in groups. Please let me know if I haven't been clear.
Hope that helps.
