Thanks to everyone for their suggestions.
I finally got this working.
I changed it back to a "Simple" Reference Qualier.
Then I added "ref_ac_order_by=u_order" in the Variable attribute field.

You can set up a simple reference qualifier for your requirement.
I think you just copied syntax from a post and is in-correct, use below if you need to try using advanced reference qualifier,
