Script to pull variable from selected catalog item

All,

i have one catalog item, where i have a reference to 3 other catalog items. Lets say the catalog items which are selectable are A, B, C

I want to transfer one variable (D) from the selected catalog items. All of them have the variable D in there, but with different strings.

How can i get there?

With an order guide you can just have variables filled in once and use them on the others.
