Using Order guides for equipment purchases

Hello,
I would like to create an order guide where the user can select from a series of items (that contain images) on a tab within the order guide titled for each of the categories.
On the Describe needs page there would be a variable label and checkbox variables for Desktop, Laptops, Tablets, Displays, and Accessories which would display only the tabs for the checkboxes that are checked.
On the Choose Options tab, there would be a tab titled for each of the items above and the user would be presented with a vertical list of those items to select from.
We would have to create each of the above items as catalog items, so we can create user criteria to have them appear appropriately for each team and so we can have a picture of the item.
I would appreciate any suggestions for how to do this or if there are better ideas

Why not simply use cart and check-out?

Hi Kilo,
Thank you for getting back to me. The cart function does not work. We have tried it. The issue is that there is no front-end form, where the user can enter their department accounting string, who is the manager and/or department approver, etc. We don't have this information as an organization.
We did not have a centralized structure and groups are often not willing to change their procedure to utilize the same workflow. So we have to develop around that.

Are you hinting to the fact that you don't want to make users enter the same accounting string and manager, department, etc. information on each Catalog Item that they want to order and you would want to make use of the variable cascade functionality of Order Guides?
