What makes knowledge state moves to Pending Retired and Retired State in Knowledge?

Hi Community,

I was checking on knowledge records for 'Pending retirement' state but when I'm clicking on Retire UI Action ,it's directly going to Retired State (not on pending retirement).Even I tried with the existing knowledge records which are in this pending retired state and creating knowledge by impersonating same authors but still it's directly moving to Retired state,

So here the question is when knowledge moves to Pending retirement state?

May be the Valid To date is passed.

There are two type of workflows which are used to retire knowledge articles.

1. Instant Retire

2. Approval Retire 

The articles which you have retired might be using Instant retire workflow due to which they straightaway went to retired state.
