Abstract: After a successful implementation of our CMDB, we realized early on that maintaining accurate data in our CMDB was important to have effective IT Operations. This comes at a cost since teams need to constantly spend time auditing the CMDB for accuracy. As part of an effort to streamline our CMDB audits, ServiceNow IT setup a governance structure and implemented a new audit mechanism to reduce the manual effort of maintaining our CMDB. Using the ServiceNow platform, we see how our team created this automated auditing mechanism, leveraging the metrics generated by OOB CMDB dashboard jobs and creating actionable tasks for respective owners to validate their CI’s in CMDB. This approach allowed us to turn our quarterly audits into a continuous effort of continual data integrity. As a result, we saved 1200 hours per year in performing our audits.
