Adding Additional Templates

I had an inquiry about adding additional templates to the official list of templates available from ServiceNow.  Is that possible?  Please note I'm not referring to templates that can be added via the knowledge article form, but the templates in the menu; example would be "How To".

Thank you in advance.

Hi,

I believe you're referring to: knowledge article templates, correct?

If so, then yes, you can certainly create more 🙂

As @Allen Andreas stated, yes you can create other templates. However, please keep in mind that articles cannot switch templates. They are tied to the template they were initially created with (each template creates a separate table to hold all the template fields). If you want to move an existing article from one template to another, you have to create a brand new article (with a new KB#) and copy/paste the contents from the old to the new. Then, retire the old article. There is a new feature in Tokyo where you can specify a replacement article upon retirement and then the hyperlinks from the old article redirect to the new one. But be sure to plan accordingly before creating/using custom templates!

Hi,

Thanks for adding that information! 🙂

I don't think it's common for any article written with one template to need to switch to another. The same would be said if you used the standard form, you can't apply a template after either and would need to recreate it/move it. It's all something to keep in mind, sure, but I wouldn't word it as a "risk" to the person in this question asking if they can create their own templates.
