Approval Notification

Probably a very low level question, but when you change who receives KB approval notifications, is that a customization or a configuration?  Same question for what is in the actual email. I want to change those few things but have to tote the line for how much customization we have in our prod instance. TY!

It's minor configuration, you can check the notification applied in this case and change the receiver details. 

 

See the example :

Naviagate to Email ->Notifcation and search the approval notification ( this is OOTB one )

Those are configurations. Email notification content and KB workflows are just records and don't require any modification to the OOB behaviour.

OOB, the approval publish workflow in knowledge management will send to the KB owner and managers. You can configure that on the KB record by adjusting those people. If you want to have the approval process changed (more layers of approval, for instance), you'll want to build a new workflow for that...and that gets a bit more into the "customization" approach, rather than "configuration".
