Determining Knowledge Categories for End Users

Does anyone have any suggestions for end user categories as far as grouping knowledge articles?

If people are stating that categories aren't as important these days, then how to people arrange their public knowledge base categories so they're labelled more user friendly on the Service Portal? I've been handed the knowledge process to review, when looking at our public facing KBs on the portal, it seems there's no continuity across how teams have been publishing
