Does anybody have issues with the printing funtionality of KB articles?

Hello!

When I want to print a knowledge base article - even in the printer friendly view - I do have issues:

  • text is cut off at left border
  • pictures are not to be seen in print/pdf

When I look at the article - in the browser in KB, in the expert GUI - all is fine.

Using CTRL+P or right click and 'Print' does not work at all.

It si no difference if the graphic/photo/visiual was part of an imported docx file or was uploaded to ServiceNow KB.
Result is the same.

What I used to do is, in article view I would select everything I want by right-click and drag.. After I selected everything I would right-click in the selection and select print. Then I would print to pdf. The pdf would be perfect 🥰.  Then recently the government contract I'm on blocked images in the browser being able to "copy" so now my pdf has the images missing.. but maybe this will still work for you depending on your company's group policy. Good luck!!

That actually works! Funny thing - but after selecting all the text and using right click / print -> it is perfect!
Thank you very much!

Hello,

If your goal is to follow the instructions from the article while working, here are a few alternative options that might help:

  1. Using Multiple Screens: If you have more than one screen, you could open the knowledge article on one screen and perform the tasks on the other. This way, you can easily reference the article without needing to print it.

  2. Using a Mobile Device: If you only have one screen, you could open the knowledge article on your phone or tablet while following the instructions on your desktop or laptop. This can also make it easier to work without needing a physical printout.

  3. Sharing the Article: If your intention is to share the article with someone else, you can simply use the "Copy Permalink" option to share the link directly. This ensures that the recipient has access to the most up-to-date version of the article.

I hope these alternatives are helpful. If you still need to print the article, you might want to check if there are any browser settings or extensions that could improve the printing functionality, or consider converting the page to a PDF using a dedicated tool before printing.

Thank you for your support. Unfortunately we really have to print policy documents to have proof for auditors.
Sharing is not possible as well - since we will not give the auditors access to our ServcieNow (means they would need AAD Accounts just for the audit purpose)
