Knowledge Article Translation for multiple local language

My company is global organization.   We have the requirement to translate some KB article to their own country language.  We have reviewed ServiceNow Document sites for language plugins and dynamic translation.  However, we don't find what are the configuration steps required to setup.

If you have hands-on example, can you share?

There are two translation tasks you need to perform : Platform Translation and dynamic translation

1) Platform translation -there is ServiceNow translation plugin for each country.  Such as: Japanese.  You need to activate this plugins.  The scope of this is only for system translation (table, label and app nd module name), not data

2) Dynamic translate, which is for data translation.  You can use it for each app based.  I posted one video on my YouTube ServiceNow Learning Channel -

Is it possible to select multiple languages at the beginning of the process and translate them automatically rather than having to select one language at a time, click machine translate and then create draft article?

Via "Translation Management" you can indeed do that, or even auto generate per language tasks etc more info can be found here,

Translation management will allow translation tasks to be auto generated and routed to people, but those people would still need to open the task, click machine translate and then create a draft article right?

Automatically translating articles whenever they are updated doesn't seem to be an out of the box feature.

There is a dynamic translation spoke for Flow Designer, though I'm not sure if it supports content in HTML fields.

I imagine the desired workflow here would be something like:

Trigger: Article updated or created where status is Published.

Actions:

  • Get the knowledge base record from the article
  • For each of the languages enabled for the knowledge base (excluding the trigger article's language):
    • If there is already a translated article for the target language:
      • If the target article is set to enable automatic translation updates (true/false field on the article):
        • Update it with the translated content
      • Else
        • Create translation / feedback task
    • Else:
      • Create new article for target language
      • Populate fields with machine translated content
      • Set automatic translation updates to true
      • Publish OR create translation or feedback task for someone to review (Property on the knowledge base might be a nice way to control this)

These are the features we're exploring. 

Knowledge Author

  • Knowledge Author can set a ‘Do not machine translate’ flag on a translated article to skip machine translations
  • Existing translated articles will automatically get machine translated and published if the parent English article is re-published (unless the ‘Do not machine translate’ flag is set)
  • The author can select multiple languages at the start of machine translation process instead of having to select the translation option for each required language
  • Triggering a machine translation will automatically:
    • Check if any existing published translated versions of the selected language exist
    • Skip the translation if the ‘Do not machine translate’ flag is set to true
    • Translate the description, short description, body and meta tags
    • Add a machine translated disclaimer
    • Publish the machine translated article without any review step
    • Mark the previous version of the translated article to ‘outdated’
