Hi all,

I need help in editing KB articles in DEV instance however, the KB articles does not have any checkout button. Also I checked the state and it is in PUBLISHED (IN PROGRESS) State. How can I edit these KB Articles?

Do you have contribute rights on the knowledge base? Can you create and publish new articles? Also strange, the knowledge base field is empty. That might actually be the culprit.

Hello Byron,

The most common cause that I experienced, was that there was already a version currently checked out, and not published.  Maybe check your Drafts list, or All and look for that KB#.

The other potential is sometimes when another author edits it, it assumes they are the owner. So if someone else has recently edited it, you might have them open it and set you as the author and republish.

Let me know if that helps! 🙂

Hi @Josh Schools and @LCoughlin

I do not know who the owner of these articles. Also, they haven't been updated for quite sometime that's why I was assigned to update them however I can't since there's no CHECKOUT button. I was told that these KB articles we're imported from the OLD instance.

I do have 1 KB article that was also imported from the OLD instance but I was able to edit it: (See image below).

In the 2nd image, the state is also PUBLISH (IN PROGRESS) but the DRAFT is COMPLETED not SKIPPED and there's a CHECKOUT Button on the KB Article.

I am now more sure that your issue with the first article is that it does not belong to a knowledge base. Most likely it was not imported into a knowledge base, since it does not have a knowledge base to inherit permissions from you cannot edit it. An Admin will need to manually assign that knowledge article to a knowledge base that you have contribute rights on.
