Updating a Word Article

I was unsuccessful in updating a knowledge article created in Word. I followed the typical path of opening it in Word but got an error message. Nothing else worked. I'm also unable to retire it or save any changes.
The only way I know to fix this issue is by using the updated Word copy and submitting it as a new article.
Are there any other options to resolving these issues without having to create a new article?
My company is on Washington, D.C.

Have you tried unlinking the Word document?
- Navigate to All > Knowledge > Articles.
- Select the affected article.
- On the Knowledge form, click the Unlink from Word related link
