Join us for our new series of live sessions focused on Next Experience topics such as the Next Experience UI, UI Builder, Configurable Workspaces, Components, etc.
This month's session is an Overview of a new Tokyo feature: In-line Editor for Next Experience Dashboards. In this month's session we'll have a special guest Product Manager from the Performance Analytics and Reporting team to provide an introduction to our new inline dashboard editor and how dashboard creation for workspace has changed since the San Diego release. This session will also have a live demo of the inline dashboard editor and we will have time for Q&A.
This academy occurs every third Wednesday of the month (12pm EST, 9am PST), with this session airing on October 19, 2022. We'll have product experts on hand to demonstrate concepts, best/good practices, provide guidance, and answer your questions in a live setting.

Here's the Q&A from the session, please comment if you have any other questions.
Q. Are there any Labs type training for more of the advanced features of UI Builder?
A. Check out the UI Builder resource hub and scroll to the bottom, there are links to a NowLearning, Developer Site course, and CreatorCon lab.
Q. On the first Next Experience Academy in August at least I heard, that Next Experience is targeted for Workspaces and itil users, and that Service Portals are here to stay - at least for a foreseeable time to come... Why did I not hear a 100 pct. recommendation to build all future Service Portals in Next Experience/UI Builder, as it's an option just like creating Workspaces in Next Experience? Why not go for it now and click on "create Service Portal" in Next Experience?
A. We do not have key features in the Next Experience Portal experience yet. For instance, you can search but not Browse. There is very limited catalog functionality. It is best suited for a small department like intranet.
Q. Will Data Visualizations support Database Views?
A. Yes, they are located under the Tables list. See 25:18 in the video
Q. Does this mean that we need to re-create all reports as Data Visualizations?
A. In Tokyo we don’t currently have a migration path for Core UI visualizations in Next Experience, but it is on the roadmap. See the end of the presentation for guidance. Today, don’t recreate just use the report in the dashboard in the Core UI. By Washington we will have a migration tool to migrate existing dashboard content into Next Experience data visualizations (Safe Harbor applies).
Q. Is PA still a separate subscription fee? If so, and you don’t have PA, what does that mean for these new features?
A. Performance Analytics licensing is required for PA Indicators data sources used in Data Visualizations. So you can use the features in this presentation aside from the PA Indicator data resources if you do not have PA licensing or Pro licensing.
Q. What Licensing is required for the users to use this and the Data Visualization Designer?
A. No extra licensing required for Data Visualization designer.
Q. We have Manager Rollup as a filter on our classic dashboards. It is a list collector. Will we be able to use it as a filter on UI Builder dashboards?
A. Yes, list collectors can be used as filters.
Q. Can you also give an indication of, how patient I’ll have to be, before it would be the “default” to create Service Portals in Next Experience? 1, 2 versions?
A. As always, things change, but I think we’re most likely looking at 2 or 3 releases from now before we’d recommend trying to create an enterprise self-service portal in next experience and likely a few releases after that before we have true parity between next experience portals and service portal. We do not have that on the roadmap committed yet, you will likely see us release experiments in Vancouver/Washington but it will be beyond 2-3 years to make that recommendation (Safe Harbor applies).
Q. We do not have any paid for performance analytics capabilities…will we still be able to use this workspace analytics space?
A. Yes. Platform Analytics Workspace is not a part of Performance Analytics licensing.
Q. Under which tab does a dashboard show up when you bookmark a certified dashboard?
A. There is a label/highlight indicating the dashboard is certified when viewing all dashboards under the Dashboards tab. There is also a section for Certified on the sidebar. See 30:00 in the recording.
Q. Do these need to be created in a workspace?
A. The in-line dashboard editor is only available for Workspaces currently.
Platform Analytics Center is itself a workspace, and an option that can be added to a configurable workspace. You can create the dashboard either in the Platform Analytics Workspace or the configurable workspace you’re working in.
Q. How many filters can be added for a Performance Analytics widget?
A. You can add as many as you want, however within an indicator data source – you’re still limited to the 2 layers of breakdowns for now. See 31:00 in the recording.
Q. I'd like to use these visualizations on a portal page. Will that be OK?
A. Yes, you can use the data visualization component in any page in UI Builder.
Q. So these dashboards that are created in the Analytics center... can they then be viewed in the classic mode, or does it have to be in a workspace?
A. Next Experience dashboards are only available for Workspaces as of Tokyo, but data visualizations themselves can be used in any UI Builder page, they do not apply to responsive/classic dashboards.
Q. If I have indicators predefined from a previous report/query that I've written, have 12 of them placed on a simple dashboard is it possible to have a parameter that would allow me to modify a date field applicable to all indicators to update them all at once, so I don't have to edit each one separately like I do today?
A. If you’re using a data visualization from the library, if you edit it from the library it will apply to all dashboards utilizing that data visualization, so the change only needs to be done once.See 34:00 in the recording for deeper explanation on indicators. Indicators and breakdowns are created the same way as before. If it’s a report, you’d have to recreate the report as a data visualization.
Q. If you add a new Data Visualization directly onto a dashboard does it get saved the Library?
A. No. You will need to create the data visualization in the Visualization designer. See 36:00 in the recording.
Q. It looks like I'll be able to create a dashboard with a map visualization that auto-refreshes every 2 minutes? True?
A. You can set a refresh rate on your data visualization. See the developer site for more setup on this component.
Q. My requirement is for the data to be viewed based on the user's "agency" (or company). So the filter will be dynamically determined - is that ok?
A. Yes, you can still apply dynamic filters. i.e. You can see incidents applied to my teams, etc.
Q. How do you apply a filter to a data visualization?
A. See the product documentation. Also see 45:00 in the video for filtering on indicators.
Q. Is there a way to install this in our PDI instances from the store? So we can start to experiment with these new tools?
A. If your PDI is on Tokyo or higher, this Store item should be available to you to install on your PDI. In Utah this will be trued up and packaged with the family release (Safe Harbor applies)
Q. Please clarify the relationship between these new dashboards and workspaces. They must exist within a workspace? But Analytics Center is itself a workspace?
A. Platform Analytics Center is itself a workspace, and also an option that can be added to a configurable workspace. You can create the dashboard either in the Platform Analytics Workspace or the configurable workspace you’re working in.
Q. Although this all looks very intuitive - Is there any recommended free training on the Platform Analytics Workspace? For the 80/90 percent of our regular users (non-advanced) vs PA Admin.
A. Here’s a list of Performance Analytics training resources.
Q. Are there any Instructor lead training for this and UI Builder for advanced training for developers?
A. There is not currently instructor led training for UI Builder. We do have our fundamentals course and more advanced course on the developer site. See the UI Builder resource hub for these trainings and more. We are working on an advanced UI Builder self-paced course for NowLearning.
Q. Could you hide the Analytics Center Workspace until we could properly support the product. We are early adopter that has old bad queries, older bad processes and more.
A. The default is that is it visible, but you can restrict it like other workspaces via ACLs or remove it from the Workspace dropdown.

This is superb! Good job with the new inline editor.
One question: can you add additional "Group by" options to data visualizations? (see example below)
Best regards,
--Mikko
For the List - Simple visualization, is there any plan to support Data sources? We'd like to be able to use saved Report Sources and it doesn't seem possible for this type of visualization.
Hello Ashley, the link to UI Builder resource hub produces a "page not found" error. Would you please post the link? I'm interested in the more advanced course on the developer site.
Thank you, looks like we need to fix our short links. I've posted the full link for now.
While playing around with the new inline editor in a PDI, I found some bugs. Would it make sense to "report" these bugs here? Or what is your recommendation for reporting bugs that do not relate to any customer/production instance?
@mikkojuola for a PDI probably the best course of action would be to post the issue on the Performance Analytics product hub since their team owns the In-line Dashboard Editor and will be monitoring that forum rather than our's.
Hi, thanks for this session. Can someone please confirm if (and how) it is possible to show the indicator specific Analytics hub screen when clicking through on a data visualisation that uses an indicator as the data source (now that PA widgets in workspaces have been deprecated as of Tokyo)?
This was very informative thank you. How do you allow Dashboards to be created in a configurable workspace, i.e. CSM/FSM Configurable Workspace ?
