Lookup Select Field showing SysID in Next Experience UI

Hello,
I have a Catalog Item configured with a Lookup Select Box. In the Classic UI, on RITMs, this Variable shows the name of the selected items, but when I promote the Catalog Item to another environment where Next Experience is enabled, I see the sys_id, instead.
Does anybody know the cause for the disparity?

Can you try changing lookup value field and try

When I change the Lookup Value Field to "name", it does show "name" on the RITM, but isn't this supposed to be the purpose of the Lookup label field(s)?
Again, in an instance without Next Experience, this works the way I expect, but in an instance with Next Experience, it feels broken.
I know there are several things that have to be manually turned on/off with Next Experience. Is this maybe one of them?
