I have a requirement for a custom table to use a different field from the cmn_location table as the display value for a specific reference field.
I am building a custom application for our Facilities team with a couple of custom tables that reference cmn_location. For these reference fields, the team would like the location to display its Facilities Code (implemented as a custom field on the cmn_location table) rather than the Name field, which is currently the display value for cmn_location.
Ideally, this change would apply only to these specific reference fields in the custom application. Other references to cmn_location throughout the platform should continue to use the existing Name display value.
Is there a supported way to configure a reference field to use a different display value than the display field defined on the referenced table, without changing the display value globally?
Thank you for your time and help!

This is not possible. A workaround is to create another field to display on the form which populates with the Code when a location is populated/updated using getReference or GlideAjax in an onChange Client Script.
