Now Assist: Change Risk Explanation - similar change requests

The Change Risk Explanation skill contains an input named 'similar change requests'. I have a requirement to modify this to include the same assignment group (and a couple of other things) when looking for similar changes but it seems this is not easily configurable.

It's possible to select input data (and related lists) which can be used to build context from similar change requests once they've been identified but not so easy to change what determines which of those changes are considered 'similar'.

So this is more about identifying similar changes as oppose to what is done once they have been found.

Apparently it is possible, but changing the 'UX Macroponent Definition: Change request risk explanation input config' record is not advised. 

I'm looking for advice on an alternative approach (maybe create a custom skill to find similar changes) or if anyone has managed to change the OTB input successfully?
