How do I dot-walk columns in a UX List (sys_ux_list) to match the columns from a report?

I'm trying to recreate a List report for a Catalog Task (sc_task) in a UX List and some of the list columns dot-walk differently when being added to the list.

In the report when you click "Choose Columns"->"+Variables"->(click that dot-walk sign in the middle of the sluish bucket) it opens a modal to select the Catalog Item you want to pick variables from so that you can bring variables from any Catalog Item.

In the UX List when you're trying to pick columns for the list and click on the plus sign in the middle of the slush bucket it doesn't let you choose the catalog item you want to bring variables from.

How do I manage to recreate the same list with the same columns in a UX List similalrly to what it looked in the report?

I don't think this is possible in a workspace list menu config [sys_ux_list], but you can show variables through the list component in a workspace.
