How do the Homepage and Dashboard modules determine which dashboard/page to open?

Hi everyone,

We are currently investigating the behavior of the Homepage and Dashboard modules and would appreciate some clarification on the following points.

Homepage module

Our understanding is that when a user clicks the Homepage module, the system redirects them to the last dashboard they visited, regardless of whether it is a Core UI dashboard (pa_dashboard) or a Platform Analytics dashboard (par_dashboard).

• Is this understanding correct?
• What mechanism determines and stores the last visited dashboard?
• Are there any user preferences, system properties, or scripts responsible for this redirection?

Dashboard module

We observed that the Dashboard module points to $pa_dashboards_overview.do. We would like to understand the differences between $pa_dashboard.do and $pa_dashboards_overview.do specifically:

• Is $pa_dashboard.do the legacy path of Dashboards?
• What page or dashboard will users see when navigating directly to $pa_dashboard.do?
• Is $pa_dashboards_overview.do a newer path that replaces $pa_dashboard.do, or is it simply a dashboard overview page?
• What page or dashboard will users see when navigating directly to $pa_dashboards_overview.do?
• What determines whether these URLs open a Core UI dashboard or redirect to Platform Analytics Workspace?

Any official documentation or implementation details explaining the redirection mechanism would be very helpful.
