How to create CMDB health dashboard using performance analytics

Hello Guys,

I have a task to create a dashboard to monitor CIs. I went through the CMDB KPIs and tried to implement the feature. I can see the Correctness, Completeness and Compliance on the dashboard. But i want to know whether we can use performance analytics to track the same KPIs ? If so what is the procedure to achieve ?

Under performance analytics, I created a dashboard, and tried to add a widget and wanted to select duplicate CIs, but that is a system UI widget. So i tried to create an indicator source (with condition to track duplicates which might be a blunder), a job and then setup indicator. And got totally confused with the process and not able to figure out what is the step by step process of capturing the CMDB KPIs in performance analytics and display on the dashboard.

Went through all the docs and videos but no where mentioned the process. Please help me out.

Have you activated the Out-Of-The-Box content/solution? As with most (recent) ServiceNow applications there will be some report only based dashboards that are shipped with the application. However, when you are entitled to use Performance Analytics with that application (have a look at the Getting Started with PA community pages if you are unsure) or want to try it out on a non-prod instance (you are allowed to activate or request activation of just about anything) you can activate the appropriate PA content pack/solution and get the best version of the dashboards for that application, think about indicators, interactive filters, breakdown dashboards, interactive analysis capabilities, etc.

There is a CMDB content pack available, see below for a few screenshots to get it activated and configure it. Let me know how it went!

1. Go to Performance Analytics > Guided Setup to activate the plugin

2. Activate the plugin

3. Validate and configure the sources, indicators, breakdowns, widgets, etc and run the (historic) collection

Hello David,

Thank you so much for your information. It helps. Yes i did activate but that is on my own instance. But i have few questions regarding the performance analytics license.

1. When we want the PA on CMDB in the organization, can we edit or configure the metrics according to our requirement if we activate this plugin or do we need PA premium license?

2. I am trying to activate this plugin in sandbox but i do not see any options to configure. But i think it can be configured if we search for the indicator sources, jobs etc. seperately and go into to create a new record, but does that work to configure and visualize on the dashboard?

Hi,

1. Yes you will need a PA license in order to use and make changes / create new indicators, breakdowns. Have a look at the Getting Started with PA community pages as it also discusses licensing in greater detail. Let me know if you're still running in circles though after you've had a chance to review.

2. Have you successfully activated the plugin as that should be possible? And from there go to guided setup to see the list of sources indeed that were installed with the plugin so you can review the conditions as I imagine you need to add some additional filtering in your organisation. Widgets are shipped as well but after you're satisfied with the indicators and have run a (historic) collection then you can also create your own widgets and add these to a (new) dashboard.

Kind regards
