HELP! I am new to ServiceNow having devolped dashboards in both PowerBI and Tableau for many, many years (8+). I know that, in these other platforms, what I am trying to do is simple but, in ServiceNow it is either a) very complex and/or b) I am misunderstanding things. Here is my simple scenario (keeping it simple):
- I have access to a small table/list with many columns, one being a column that is a "ID". I can not modify this table (add columns, etc.). I can only read the data.
- I have created a small report that shows this data as a list (selected columns, including the ID coumn).
- I have placed this small report on a dashboard (and it shows up beautifully).
- I now want the user to be able to filter this report (list) based on the ID column shown.
- I have tried adding an interactive filter as a Choice List but it says that the selected field (ID) is NOT a Choice List
- I tried adding an interactive filter as a Reference, but then read that "You can't (be default) apply an interactive filter on the table that the filter is based on."
- I've tried reading online how to create a "self-referencing interactive filter", but many of these talk about adding a column to your table that you want to filter...something I can not do.
Is it really that difficult in ServiceNow to add a table/list to a dashboard and allow the user of the dashboard to filter the table on one or more of the displayed columns? Am I missing something? Can ANYONE point me in the right direction? Documentation? Videos? ANYTHING?!
Signed,
Frustrated New ServiceNow User

What's the type of the ID field? How have you setup the filter? What are the conditions on the report?
Also, is this a responsive dashboard or a platform analytics dashboard? And if it is the latter, is it an inline editor dashboard, or a technical one?
Please mark any helpful or correct solutions as such. That helps others find their solutions.

Hi @DLitvack,
Not sure which type of dashboard you’re using, whether it’s the inline editor dashboard or the technical one but here’s how you can address your issue.
Since number or ID fields don’t show up in filters, when setting the filter source, just select the table itself without choosing any specific field. Like this
Thanks & Regards,

I am not sure what that is an image of, but my interface looks nothing like that. I am making a basic, out-of-the-box, ServiceNow Dashboard.
