Group management in an educational setting

Educational institutions, including universities and K-12 schools, offer a great example of complex group management. Schools usually have multiple departments filled with students, faculty, and staff, with users requiring access to workstations in multiple buildings (and often across several campuses).

Each semester, as students change courses and faculty and staff move between offices or departments, the IT help desk is hit with countless requests for group administration changes to make sure everyone has the necessary access for computers, folder structures, and group email lists. You can probably imagine how quickly these requests pile up, and how long it can take an IT team to work through the entire list. This can create an immediate inconvenience to the students, faculty, and staff who are waiting on the IT team, and to the IT team itself, which always has plenty of other work to do.

Performing group membership management in ADManager Plus lets non-IT staff, professors, and managers easily administer their own AD groups. By accessing their service catalog and making the necessary membership change requests, those who best understand the access needs of their own groups can initiate and implement AD group management changes immediately.

Key features of the group management module

Dynamic Active Directory group lookup

Users can access the group management module from any major web browser, without necessarily needing direct Active Directory permissions.

Role-based access control

Control which ADManager Plus features a user can access through customizable roles and permissions. Use the default roles (user, administrator, and auditor) or create your own to tailor to your company's needs.

Self-service group administration for non-IT staff

Place more control in the hands of managers and team leaders by allowing them to modify group membership for their own groups. Allow other staff to make group membership requests to their group managers, and fully audit all ADManager Plus usage and group changes to keep Active Directory secure.
