CI Unique identifier

Hello All,

Happy New year 2023!!!

What can be the unique identifier of the CI other than name? Is it possible to set 'Serial number' or 'Asset name' as the unique identifier? For example, while creating the new incident, is it possible to link the configuration item by searching the serial number or Asset name of the device?

Please share your inputs.

Thanks in advance!!

Shilpa

You can absolutely use the Serial Number or the Asset Tag to search for an affected CI.

Within the Add Affected CI's window, you can personalize the form's columns to add the Serial Number and Asset Tag values using the "gear" icon to bring up the slush bucket of available fields.

Once you've added them, you can easily search for values in the columns.  An alternative would be to leverage the Query filter, though that method could introduce more "clicks" and over time be less efficient.

Yes, a CI can use fields like Serial Number or Asset Name as a unique identifier. During incident creation, you can link the CI by searching these fields instead of the CI name
