Commercial products that have only discovery model

We are finding we have over 700 products that have a discovery model with no publisher and no software model that have been set to licensable. Does anyone know why ServiceNow would do that when they don't have a publisher - I would expect these to be unnormalized. Examples are excel, powerpoint, Adobe acrobat 2026 and many more. Because they are set as licensable they are messing up are software license compliance position reports and ELP grouping reports but we have no way to fix them since there isn't a software model there. The only good thing is we do see them, but they aren't actionable. Thanks.

Hi @annmarsh,

could you please share a screenshot of the discovery models with out publishers? As per default the product and publisher fields are link with each other, means - when a product is set for a discovery model the product publisher will be auto-populated. The product type licensable/not licensable is inherited from the software product.

Depending on the following software asset properties, SAM Pro will create software modles for all licensable product and model results as well -> Software Asset Properties: Reader • Docs | ServiceNow.

In general, this result is expected for maximum transparency into licenseable product and their incompliance

Automatically create software models for all 'licensable' products

com.snc.samp.automaticsmrcreation

Automatically creates a software model, in a non-compliant state, for any unlicensed installations, subscriptions, or options (of licensable products) in the Product Results list that don’t have an entitlement.

The new software model and results are used to show the unlicensed count in the License Position Report.

Automatically create software model results for unlicensed products during software asset reconciliation

com.snc.samp.unlicensed_smr_creation

Disables software model result creation for unlicensed software models. Software model results continue to be created for software models that have valid entitlements.

The default value is False. You can modify the value using system properties configuration. When the property is set to True, the software model results get created for software models that don’t have entitlements or have installs requiring action.
