Concurrent/floating license and software installs

How can we have a concurrent/floating license show compliant when the software installs exceed the license rights?

With this licensing model, installs themselves shouldn’t be counted for compliance purposes.  Since concurrent licensing doesn’t require a separate server and is managed directly by the software or the publisher’s portal, we’re actually able to have unlimited installs.  The key factor is that access is controlled through the publisher’s website, not installations.

We need to use out-of-box and not create customizations since customizations can cause issues when upgrading.

Did you have any luck with this?

Hi @tracymadeir,

I hope my answer helps you.

When considering these types of licenses, the first thing to understand is how the software licensing data is being collected. Most engineering software is licensed using tokens, floating, or network-based licensing models.

If these are engineering software products, are you using an integration with Open iT or OpenLM to collect the software usage data?

If so, SAM Pro does not calculate license compliance for engineering software based directly on the number of installations. Instead, it uses the peak usage count for each software installation, and that value is compared against the available license entitlement during reconciliation.

For engineering software, the installation and usage information is stored separately in the Engineering Software Peak Consumption [samp_eng_app_sw_install] table, which extends the Software Installation table.

Therefore, the reconciliation for these engineering software products is based on their peak consumption/usage rather than the total number of installations.

Thanks,

Maniteja.
