Prerequisites for SAP Integration with ServiceNow SAM Pro

Hi all,

I’m currently exploring the integration of SAP with ServiceNow’s Software Asset Management (SAM) Pro and would greatly appreciate insights from those who have experience with this process.

- Are there specific SAP modules, versions, or configurations required for compatibility with SAM Pro?
- Does the integration require a middleware (e.g., SAP PI/PO, CPI) or third-party tools?
- Are there specific ServiceNow plugins or MID Server configurations needed?

- What SAP roles/permissions or RFC setups are necessary for data extraction?
- Are there recommended SAP tables, transactions, or APIs (e.g., BAPIs) to prioritize for license/usage data?
- Are there specific tables, fields, or workflows in ServiceNow that need customization to align with SAP data?
- How is SAP license metric data mapped to ServiceNow’s normalization processes?
- Are there specific tables, fields, or workflows in ServiceNow that need customization to align with SAP data?
- How is SAP license metric data mapped to ServiceNow’s normalization processes?
- What challenges might arise during the integration, and how can they be mitigated?

If you’ve worked on a similar integration or have documentation/guides to share, your input would be invaluable! Even pointing me toward relevant ServiceNow docs, SAP notes, or community threads would be immensely helpful.

Thank you in advance for your time and expertise. I look forward to learning from your experiences!

Best regards,
Tanay

Hi @TanayB,

please check the following ServiceNow sources about the SAP integration

- Are there specific SAP modules, versions, or configurations required for compatibility with SAM Pro?

--> check the ServiceNow store link for your release

- Does the integration require a middleware (e.g., SAP PI/PO, CPI) or third-party tools?

--> No, it's based on a ABAP tool for the SolutionManager and uses RFC connections to get the data

- Are there specific ServiceNow plugins or MID Server configurations needed?

--> Access MID to SAP SolMan is requiered

- What SAP roles/permissions or RFC setups are necessary for data extraction?

--> see attached PDF

- Are there recommended SAP tables, transactions, or APIs (e.g., BAPIs) to prioritize for license/usage data?

--> see attached PDF

- Are there specific tables, fields, or workflows in ServiceNow that need customization to align with SAP data?

--> No, publisher pack covers all

- How is SAP license metric data mapped to ServiceNow’s normalization processes?

--> Covered by SAMP based on named user types & engine measurements

--> Table details are here with more content - Tables installed with the SAP publisher pack

- What challenges might arise during the integration, and how can they be mitigated?

--> start with a small test of RFC connections (1-2) to avoid long-running tests

--> SSL certificate chain should match between all systems

--> Missing engine types must be reported to SN content team

Hope this helps!

Best, Dennis

Hi @dreinhardt ,

Thank you for your insightful response. I have two follow-up questions for further clarification:

  1. Does the SAM Publisher Pack and ABAP program integrate with SAP Cloud environments, such as S/4HANA Cloud, or is it limited to on-premise SAP systems?

  2. What is the process for connecting to SAP Cloud platforms, such as SAP for Me or S/4HANA Cloud, to retrieve license consumption data?

I appreciate your guidance on these matters.
