SAM vs SAM Pro

Hi guys,

does anyone can explain me what are the main differences between Software Asset Management and Software Asset Management Professional?

We have SAM Pro and my organization want to know several informations about softwares and licenses status.

For example:

  • number of installed software per item (i've find information on software installations table).
  • number of available license vs purchased license (in this case i've find informations on entitlements table, but i've notice that I can modify the number of active rights and available rights only if I allocate manually the license to a specific item)

Does exist a way to do this calculation automatically? If the discovery process found some new installations i expect a modfications of active rights number.

Note: these informations are not available on License Worbench and Software Asset Management Overview dashboards

I've find on documentation about License calculation method that should be present under Reconciliation module. I've search this but i cannot find on my instance.

Probably a particular subscription or plugin is necessary?

Alex - one thing I'd like to mention here is that if customers have previously activated the pre-Kingston legacy SAM plug-in, work is required to ensure that all traces of this plugin are removed before activating SAM Pro in their instance. Specifically, the software entitlement/model forms need to be reverted back to OOB before SAM Pro is activated.

@mikewhalley- pardon the question (still green!).  Is SAM an OOTB  in the XANADU version? If yes, then SAM Pro is an extended more enhanced version at an additional cost?

@STREETFACTS ITSM includes basic software asset management capabilities. SAM Pro is a separate purchased product with significant additional functionality that comes with a comparable price tag.
