When running a scan getting the below error message. How to get away from this?
Error: No scan options profile defined. Provide a scan options profile in the Qualys configuration
Steps to replicate
1) Go to Vulnerability - Vulnerability Scanning - Scans
2) Create a new record here: - Select scanner and add IP address
3) Click Initiate Scan. You will get the error message in the Status message field.

You can enter the options profile in instance parameter, you can contact your qualys admin to get this value. For scanner appliance, you can leave this as blank in instance parameter, i don't think this is mandatory, but make sure you have enabled the scanner appliance scheduled job and you have scanner appliances loaded in scanner appliance table.

if there is no need of Scanner Appliance, then why do I need them in my Scanner Appliance table.
I think Scanner Appliance is needed in case when I am scanning internal network/Private IPs. Hence, if I am scanning external IPs/network then, I dont need a Scanner Appliance and consequently , I dont need records in Scanner Appliance table.

So basically scanner appliance is needed only when you running/initiating a scan in qualys from servicenow for a specific or group of ip's. If you not utilizing that and just using host detection job, you do not need scanner appliances.

I am facing the same problem. I need to initiate a scan from Servicenow. It error's out asking for "No scanner appliances configured". For Qualys cloud platform users like us, we do not have any dedicated scanner appliances assigned to our account in the Qualys UI.
How to get the scanner appliance then ?
