Issue with Cloud Data Center & Hardware Type Explosion After Enabling Single Hardware Type Property

Hi Community,

After enabling Cloud Hardware Type property, we are seeing an unexpected behavior in our CMDB:

• For each Cloud Service Account, around 100 Data Centers are being created.
• Under each Data Center, approximately 100 Cloud Hardware Types are being generated.
• This is leading to a massive CI explosion and duplication.

When we reviewed the logs and IRE output, Identification and Reconciliation Engine (IRE) indicates that Dependent Identification Rules should be enabled for these CIs.

Currently, Cloud Data Center and Cloud Hardware Type CIs are using Dependent Identification.
Given the scale issue, we are considering switching these CIs from Dependent to Independent Identification.

Questions:

1. Is Dependent Identification mandatory for Cloud Data Center and Cloud Hardware Type CIs when using ITOM Discovery / Cloud Discovery?
2. Would switching these CIs to Independent Identification be a supported or recommended approach?
3. Are there best practices to control CI cardinality for Cloud Data Centers and Hardware Types in this scenario?

Any guidance or real‑world experience would be greatly appreciated.
