Facilities location hierarchy

I'm in the process of manually creating campus, building, floor and space information through the facilities application to see what I would need to set it up for asset tracking. I'm running into an issue where I don't see a nested, parent/child view of my locations like we do in the demo for the ServiceNow San Diego campus. It doesn't have the hierarchy.

For example, I created the building > levels > space but the records show as a flat list and not like the demo data. What would I need to do so my manual records are show up like the image below when selecting a location?

Hi.

Ohk, now can you check the reference qualifier for the field where you see this hierarchy.

Thanks,

This is under asset:

Hi,

If you properly look that location field is pointing to cmn_location table.

Now when you expand ServiceNow - San Diego Campus then you can see 1.

This is nothing but a location not campus or floor etc.

To see this Go to Location under organisation > Search ServiceNow - San Diego Campus > In related list open > ServiceNow - San Diego Campus > Once you open then again you can see Location related list where you can see 1 and this is again a location

Thanks,
Ashutosh

After some fiddling, I realized I didn't understand the location structure since I had assumed that the locations would would automatically be related to each other via the campus, building, floor and space data. This was obviously not correct.

As Ashutosh mentioned, you have to be explicit about the location relationships and they must be location records in order for the hierarchy to work. This also means that the location and floors must be locations as well.

Just as a note, I spent too much time trying to figure out why the space wasn't nested under the floor location. It turns out that there's a parent field that is not displayed by default in the space form. You have to specify the parent as the floor in order to have it displayed properly under the floor or it will simply show up at the top level of the location picker.

It's not the most ideal way but I suppose this is how it fits into the ServiceNow location scheme.

HI,

Hope it helped alot.  Mark answer as Helpful or Correct!
